So, by now I’m sure you’ve built an amazing community online and you’re probably putting out incredible content, but when it comes to getting paid brand deals, maybe you’re a little unsure where to start.

And, I get it! You’d probably LOVE to start get tons of paid brand deals — but you just don’t know what your options are. And, maybe brands are DM’ing and emailing you everyday, but for some reason they’re only offering unpaid collaborations.

And that’s frustrating! So what do you do? Let’s chat about it because I’d LOVE for you to land a ton of brand deals going forward.

By the way, if you’re new here — welcome! My name is Jaye and I’m the creator of 11 st studio influencer agency. So let’s dive into today’s topic! Now, the first thing you need to understand is that there are MANY different types of influencer brand deals you can sign as an influencer. So, let’s chat about them.

Types of Influencer Brand Deals

Influencer Gifting aka Product Seeding

First, and possibly the most common, is product seeding or influencer gifting.

This type of influencer brand deal involves a brand gifting you their product (or service) in exchange for an agreed-upon number of Instagram, or TikTok, or YouTube, or blog posts.

So, this type of influencer brand deal is very common in the nano and micro influencer space, and (I’ll be honest) brands new to market and well, very popular brands, BOTH use this strategy to get the word out about their products.

So, the chances that you’ll experience this type of opportunity are high. And, you’ll see it occurring across all industries, so if you haven’t been approached by brands offering you this type of collab yet, get ready because, like I said, it’s very common.

So, for example, a brand may approach you and offer you a watch in return for 2 posts to Instagram tagging their brand. Or, if you’re in the travel industry, a 3 day weekend stay at their hotel in exchange for 3 posts to TikTok, tagging their hotel. Or, if you’re a beauty influencer, an eyeshadow pallet in exchange for an Instagram story of you applying it, and tagging their brand. Or if you’re an interior designer, a sofa in exchange for a few Instagram posts, tagging their company. You get the idea.

So, as I always like to say…if the item they’re gifting you totals what you would charge a brand for a paid brand deal, well, this is a great opportunity!

Paid Product Collaboration

The next type of influencer brand deal is a paid product collaboration.

OK so this is very similar to the first example. And, the concept is the same as product gifting, but the difference is that there is additional payment involved

Meaning, the brand will provide you with their product or service AND monetary compensation in exchange for an agreed-upon number of Instagram, or TikTok, or blog posts.

So, for example, if you have say, 25K followers, they may send you a watch and $500 in exchange for 2 posts to your blog or Instagram tagging their brand.

Or say you have 50k followers, they may offer you a 3-night hotel stay and $1,000 in exchange for 3 posts on Instagram tagging their hotel.

Or, perhaps you’re an interior design influencer with 100k followers. They may offer you a sofa and $3k in exchange for 2 posts to Instagram and an Instagram story tagging their brand.

So, as you can imagine, this type of brand deal is very popular!

Press Trip

OK, the next type of influencer brand deal is the press trip.

A press trip is a trip organized by a brand where they hire you to create content promoting their brand, or travel destination, or hotel for example. These can be individual trips that you take alone, or group press trips where you travel to the destination with other influencers, and perhaps photographers and journalists too.

Now, just to be clear, these can be paid or unpaid. So always make sure you inquire when approached with this type of influencer brand deal!

So, for example, a paid press trip might involve a tourism board inviting you on a press trip to a city for 7 days. They offer to cover your airfare, hotel accommodations, meals and any activities for the duration of the trip, plus pay you $3,000 to attend. In exchange, you would be required to post say, 5 images to Instagram, and 10 stories to Instagram tagging the tourism board.

Giveaways

OK, the next type of influencer brand deals is one of my favorites, and that is the giveaway! This one is a lot of fun, and you can earn a lot of money from them, as well as give back to your community, so it’s a really great opportunity!

A giveaway is, as you expect, a brand deal where the brand gives away their product or service to one (or more) of your followers. Now, with a giveaway, the brand’s goal is to gain followers and brand awareness.

Meaning, depending on how many followers you have, they will compensate you with either free products OR with free products AND payment.

So, for example, if you’re a fashion influencer with 50k followers, a clothing brand may approach you with a giveaway where they offer to giveaway 3 dresses to 1 winner, and offer to compensate you by gifting you 4 dresses, and asking you to post an image of you wearing one of them to your blog or Instagram, and in the caption announce:

I’m partnering with [brand] to give away 3 dresses to one of you! To enter, just like this post, tag a friend in the comments, and follow [brand]. Winners will be announced on Saturday, December 1st at 5 pm EST. Good luck!“

Naturally, if you have a larger audience they would also offer to pay you for this type of influencer brand deal.

Affiliate Links

Ok, the last type of influencer brand deal you may be interested in is not so much a brand deal, but you can still earn an income from it, so I do want to mention it. And that is, affiliate links.

Now, if you want to learn more about affiliate marketing, I highly recommend researching Pat Flynn, because he offers a ton of advice when it comes to affiliate links.

But for this video, I just want to say that as a nano or micro influencer, you may find a lot of brands offer you the opportunity to earn a commission by promoting their affiliate links, and some influencers make a lot of money doing this, but just to be clear, if does take some time. So, for example, if you’re a fashion blogger, a brand may offer to gift you 5 dresses, and in exchange you post as many images as you like to your blog or Instagram, of you wearing the dresses, and in the caption tell people the link is in your bio.

This way, if they follow the link and make a purchase, you earn say 20% commission from the sale. Now, as you can probably imagine, this can be somewhat risky, because there is no guarantee that people will purchase the dresses, but again, some influencers have a lot of luck with this type of collaboration, so it is something worth looking into if you are open to that kind of collaboration.

As a food blogger I joined Reward Style and linked to kitchen and cooking items on my blog, and it was an easy way to earn some additional money, even to this day, despite not posting to the blog in over a year! So, it’s smart to consider if you’re open to earning multiple sources of income, which — why wouldn’t you be?!
